Forty-three years have passed since the first adaptive skier made their way down Cone Hill (the South Ridge beginner slope). And what an adventure it has been. This year the program will celebrate yet another nearly unimaginable milestone as Sarah Billmeier is inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, winner of Paralympic 7 Gold medals, 5 Silver and one Bronze. She also holds six World Championship titles.
Losing a leg to cancer at age five, she learned to ski at age 8. She was racing by 10 and at 14 was the youngest member of the U.S. Disabled Alpine Ski Team. In 2001, she graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and in 2002, she retired from ski racing to pursue her medical career at Harvard Medical School. She is now a surgeon out of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Maine Adaptive is proud to be part of her amazing Journey and this year when she is elected to the Hall, I will be there to honor her on behalf of Maine Adaptive.
Over the years, Maine Adaptive has helped countless children, adults and veterans with disabilities achieve their dreams of skiing down the mountain with family and friends. This would not have happened without the ongoing support we have received from friends like you.
This year the Ski-a-thon is back stronger than ever and with your continued support we make skiing a reality for the next generation, and maybe the next Billmeier.
Today I am asking you to support my participation in this year’s annual Ski-A-Thon by donating to me and my team.
Most sincerely, Les
P.S. Check the "Other" donate button. I am giving $10,000.00.
